Julie believes quality workforce planning is a critical tool for business leaders steering their organisations through the turbulence of the current negative economic crisis. Those who retain 'mission critical' employees and manage workforce exits will be better equipped to respond to their short, medium and longer term business demands than those businesses who do not.

Many employers need to position themselves to retain and attract the talent they require now and in the future while reducing workforce numbers in response to current economic circumstances. This can be achieved through evidence based workforce planning - an essential element of good business practice in any economic environment.

Employers should not be distracted (by the economic crisis) from the reality that skill shortages will remain and will continue to worsen for many job groups. Unfortunately the global economic crisis will not slow down the ageing process or the age profile of our workforce.

Internationally Julie has worked in the United Nations, Centre for Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs, in the International Atomic Energy Agency and at the International Council on Social Welfare. She has also presented on the topic at the United Nations in New York.

In Australia she has provided advice and support with strategic and operational Workforce Planning across a diverse range of organisations and business in the Commonwealth, State and Local Government sectors nationally, the Australian business community, across a broad range of industries and sectors and in the not-for-profit sector.

Julie was the principal author of the first 'Guidelines on Workforce Planning' for Standards Australia launched in April 2008.

Julie is the author of the book 'An introduction to Workforce Planning - are you ready for crunch time'? Published in 2008.

Julie regularly presents as keynote speaker on the topic of workforce planning at Australian and international industry conferences and business forums and is well regarded for her ability to transfer her skills and knowledge on the topic in an interesting and straight forward manner.

WORKFORCE PLANNING AUSTRALIA (WPA) is a new company created in 2008 by JULIE SLOAN to manage the increased demand for workforce planning advice and support. Workforce Planning Australia will offer the following services and products:

Inaugural WPA Conference was held on June 4th and 5th in Sydney Australia. The conference speakers provided information on national and global initiatives in workforce planning and included nine comprehensive case studies representing a diverse range of Australian industries, sectors, states and territories.

Workforce Planning Forums and Summits - Julie Sloan and WPA will continue to offer tailored workforce planning forums and summits to meet industry and sector requirements.

Workforce Planning Training - WPA have developed a range of practical training programs supported by proven methods, techniques and tools for workforce planning and workforce development. WPA aim to have this training accredited by mid to end 2009.
